INSTRUCTIONS
For this project, we were assigned to create and manipulate the given
photos as well as our photo. To finish this project, we need to use Adobe
Photoshop in order to manipulate the photos and document it through our
blog.
PROJECT 2 (SHAZAM AND Hearst Mansion)
Week 4 : Hearst Mansion
For this assignment, we were assigned to create reflection by using
several given photos from our lecturer. We need to use certain objects
from the photoshop in order completing our assignment.
Instruction :
- Follow the WEEK 5 tutorial demo (Hearst Mansion)
- Follow the step-by-step video to edit in photoshop
- Download the images
- Attach the Digital imaging exercise - PART 1 (SHAZAM)
- Attach the Digital Imaging exercise - PART 2 (MY REFLECTION)
- Upload PART 1 & PART 2 to your e-portofolio blog
PART 1 (SHAZAM)
For this exercises, we're being given 2 different pictures through
google drive from Mr Martin. These photos will be the main object for
this assignment, we need to manipulate and combine them together using
Adobe Photoshop as instructed from our lecturer. We need to adjust
several things to make these photo looks real. Here are the images
:
Figure 4.1 The Given Photo (Shazam) (25/09/21)
Figure 4.2 The Given Photo (Hearst Mansion) (25/09/21)
By using the quick selection tool, I started cropping
the Shazam photo within a few minutes. This tool really helped me
cropping the photo in a very quick way. This tool could divide 2
different contrast object and does more powerful and detail than magic
tool.
Figure 4.3 Quick Selection tool (25/09/21)
Figure 4.4 Application of the quick tool (25/09/21)
Secondly, I chose to combine the masked/PNG Shazam with the Hearst Mansion image following the given instruction from the video. We need to adjust several things such as its composition. We couldn't just reduce size of the image by stretching the image, we need to use CTRL + T to help us reduce the image size.
Figure 4.5 Makes/PNG Shazam (25/09/21)
Figure 4.6 Combing and Reducing the image size (25/09/21)
Afterwards, I tried to adjust the luminance and the color intensity
by clicking the image > adjustment > and match color. We can
play around with the tools to manipulate Shazam photo. I played
around with the tool so that the image could be manipulated and the
two images looks good together.
Figure 4.7 Adjusting the Match Color (25/09/21)
Thereafter, by using brush tool, I started to create the shadow as
well to make the photo looks even real and unity. You can adjust the
size and the hardness of the brush as well as reduce the opacity to
make it more believable.
Figure 4.8 Brush Tool (25/09/21)
Figure 4.9 Shadow (25/09/21)
I played around with the gaussian blur adjust or
conform the radius of its shadow. This is intended to make the
image look more convincing.
For the last step, I followed Mr Martin to give the image mirror
effect to the image by duplicating the Shazam photo. You can also use paths and mask to cut the
unused part for this picture, this will help you to create the
photo even more believable.

Figure 4.12 Try to eliminate the unused part (25/09/21)
Figure 4.13 The using of Paths and Mask (25/09/21)
And that's all what I learned from the given video. This exercise will
be very important and valuable for all designer especially for the
graphic designer to create the unreal picture to be more even
believable. We also learned several thing about how various the tools in
photoshop.

PART 2 (MY REFLECTION)
To start this assignment, I started to collect several images by
requesting my family member to take a picture of me. As instructed, I
took a picture with the lighting on my right side to make it similar
with the given photo (Hearst Mansion). I used my phone to take the
picture an as Mr Martin said, I took it during the day.
Here are the images :
Figure 4.15 Myself (25/09/21)
Figure 4.16 Hearst Mansion (25/09/21)
I used exactly the same method as I've done with the Shazam photo. I
cropped the background using quick selection tool, to make it easier, I
decided to wear contrast hoodie with the background so that the quick
selection tool would work easily. thereafter, I placed myself into the
Hearst Mansion like the instruction.
Figure 4.17 Quick Selection Tool (25/09/21)
Figure 4.18 I placed it into the Hearst Mansion (25/09/21)
I reflected the photo of mine to create the mirroring effect by change
the height from 100% to -100%. I also do several changes with the
brightness and contrast to make it even real as Mr Martin told us
before on the given video.
Figure 4.19 Brightness and Contrast (25/09/21)
Figure 4.20 Adjusting the Brightness and Contrast (25/09/21)
Like what I have done with the Shazam photo, I adjusted the gaussian
blur to make the blurry effect in order to make a great believable
picture.

PROJECT 2 (RECOLORING BLACK AND WHITE)
Week 6 : Recoloring Black and White
For this assignment/project, our lecturer (Mr Martin) assigned us to
recolor the given picture by using photoshop to complete our project. We
also need to follow the instructions from the tutorial video from google
classroom properly.
Instruction :
- Follow the WEEK 5 tutorial demo (Recoloring Black and White)
- Follow the step-by-step video to edit in photoshop
- Download the given image via drive
- Submission for W6 Practical is on E-Portofolio Under week 6
PART 1 (EXERCISE 1)
For this exercise, we've been given a picture through google drive
from Mr Martin, This photo will be the main object for this assignment
and we have to recolor and re arrange the color of this image. We also
need to follow the given instruction from Mr Martin throughout the
video properly in order to utilize all of the tools in Adobe
Photoshop.
Figure 5.1 The given picture (03/10/21)
As mentioned from the instruction video, we can utilize the brush tool
and choose variety colors to apply the skin color. To make it easier,
you can adjust the size as well as the hardness from the chosen brush
so that the drawing might looks a little bit neater eventually.
Figure 5.2 Brush Tool (03/10/21)
Figure 5.3 Application of the brush tool (03/10/21)
To make it even more believable, we can also give a little touch of
adjustment for the opacity, this will help you to control the visibility
of your layers. Hue and Saturation also needed here, you can play along
the colors to find the best color combination for your skin color, this
method also helped me to create even more realistic picture.
Figure 5.4 Adjust the opacity (03/10/21)
Figure 5.5 Adjust the Hue/Saturation (03/10/21)
Figure 5.6 Application of the Hue/Saturation (03/10/21)
You can follow the similar method or performance to recolor other parts
such as the hair, I used the similar method and applied it for the hair
as well as another parts. However, I'm not using overlay on this layer
but I chose the soft light instead as instructed from Mr Martin through
his YouTube video.
Figure 5.7 Brush Tool (03/10/21)
Figure 5.8 Soft Light (03/10/21)
Figure 5.9 The same method applied for the hair (03/10/21)
You can repeat the same method to recolor other parts, by adjusting the
opacity, Hue/Saturation as well as replace the overlay with soft light
to produce the same quality elements like I've mentioned before.
Figure 5.10 Recolor the lip (03/10/21)
Figure 5.11 Recolor the eyes (03/10/21)
Figure 5.12 Recolor the coat (03/10/21)
Subsequently, you can use quick selection tool as instructed to erase
the back ground and merge with another layer to recolor the Background.
I found it is quite hard to use the quick selection tool because of the
similarity between the background color and the color that I chose.
Figure 5.13 Quick Selection Tool (03/10/21)
Figure 5.14 Erasing the background (03/10/21)
For the final part, you can choose and determine the background color
with he given option, I was going to pick the soft light one, but I
changed my mind when I compared it with color burn, even though I knew
color burn were not in the option and instruction, but I think it'll be
more fit and look even more believable with the color burn.

PART 2 (EXERCISE 2)
For this exercise, we also been given several photos and lecture video
from Mr Martin to give a try the same experience from different photos
that I found insanely complex with lots of detail that we should concern
about. We also need to use different method to recolor these pictures to
complete this assignment. We also received two different pictures as
reference to help us figure out suitable skin tone and hair colors.
Figure 6.1 The Given Photo (09/10/21)
Figure 6.3 Reference #1 and #2 (09/10/21)
Similar with the previous exercises, we also needed to use magic pen
tool to help us divide the unused background easily.
Figure 6.4 Quick Selection Tool (09/10/21)
Afterwards, the use of select and mask tools also need in here and for
this picture, by reason of its complexity and full of details, this tool
will be very helpful to us to refine our picture and since that moment,
I found out that this equipment is undoubtedly powerful for us.
Figure 6.5 Select and Mask (09/10/210)
Figure 6.5 The use of Select and Mask (09/10/21)
Subsequently, after refining your picture, you can continue create
new layers by using color solid to recolor the given photos, if you
found out that the color too strong for your design, you can change it
from normal to multiply or soft color or even
reduce the opacity so that the colors won't be prominently stand
out.
Figure 6.6 The use of Solid Color (09/10/21)
Figure 6.7 The use Solid Color (09/10/21)
You can reuse the same method to complete the other elements of
this photos, You can also use or create another solid color to
recolor the LIPS, EYES, SKIN, and HAIR with
layer mask, this will help you coloring the detail parts such as
the hair strands.

PART 2 (EXERCISE 2)
We were also assigned to recolor another picture based from previous
exercise, we need to choose and determine one of these picture as our
exercise. And I chose this specific picture to complete and finish this
exercise.

FEEDBACK
Week 5 :
- General Feedback :
- Project 2 which included Project 2A and Project 2B can be submitted by the end of this week, and we can discuss about it on the next class. You can start to start your photo manipulating by the end of the class.
- Specific Feedback :
- The result are great, he told me that I followed his instruction very well, but I have to be aware about the color match, my face is a bit dark on there, so he told me to adjust the match color, otherwise, it was a great work and it's still acceptable to be submitted.
REFLECTION
Experience : Throughout this project, I learned how important
several elements in adobe photoshop to edit or even manipulate
image. The given video from Mr Martin as well as the lecture we
received from him, are undoubtedly valuable for us to understand how
powerful this application could be. We also experienced a lot of
things through poster research that were assigned to us as the
second project for us. We learned about reflect our message or
information about certain things throughout a picture or poster.
Observation : I observed that photoshop is a great
application, even better than I thought before I entered and learned
many thing from this class. Not only manipulating picture, we could
create and evolve our design by using a lot number of tools that are
provided to you. I even observed that this class is very important
for us, especially those who wants to be graphic designer.
Finding : I found many things that I haven't noticed before,
for instance about manipulating pictures with several tools from
photoshop. Not only that, I also found that this application has so
many interesting tools that we could easily explore to evolve your
design. We also found that poster and image also contains many
information and messages, we learned that poster isn't just a
meaningless edited picture, we learned how powerful poster could be
to inform people or send our messages inside of a picture.
