Project 1 : Collage Design
INSTRUCTIONS
On this project, our lecturer (Mr Martin) assigned us to create 2 different
project related to collage design (one physical and one digital). We'll be required to use adobe photoshop as well as our preparation and materials to produce our own collage.
PROJECT 1A (physical collage)
INSTRUCTION :
- STEP ONE :
Choose and identify you collage's design elements to be cut out and compose it into your own concept and story.
- Find or create any elements from your old magazines or any sources that provide you printed materials.
- Cut it out (the chosen objects) and create your own compositions.
- Compose your materials to create your own concept and story.
- STEP TWO :
Pre compositing your collage's design elements into a composition.
- Start composing 3 different collages using the same images and materials but with different composition
- Just put them together and take a picture of it (it is not necessary to glue them together
PROGRESSION :
I tried to collect several objects from the internet to be printed and compose it together using a paper (white paper). I found these pictures unique because the concept and the font very stand out and they are very colorful.
- STEP ONE :

- STEP TWO :
Pre compositing your collage's design elements and objects into a new composition or your new arrangement.
On the first attempt, I tried to combine as much items as possible
into one composition so it does not look monotonous. With a very
contrast color facing each others and teared caption from my old
novel, they're look very well together.

Here are some of my arrangements as instructed before. I made various composition and arrangement by utilizing the same objects and elements from each design. Mr Martin suggested me to choose the first composition because it doesn't look too simple neither lack of elements.

PROJECT 1B (digital collage)
INSTRUCTION :
- STEP ONE :
Download all of the images from the given Link to your computer.
- STEP TWO :
Create three different composition digital collages from the images that you've downloaded.
- STEP THREE :
Create A4 canvas size (vertical) in Photoshop and start to do the compositions.
PROGRESSION :
After followed the given instruction, we were tried to learn and utilize photoshop before starting our digital project by using basic tools from Adobe Photoshop (wand tools, lasso tools, pen tools)

For the first composition :
I felt that it was a great idea using "space travel" as my concept and compose it with limited shapes and objects. Mar Martin told me that the idea was brilliant however he said that it would be better if I could add another elements into my design so th picture won't left too much negative space.

For the next composition (composition 2), I tried to create a
very different design from the previous one by using B&W
concept on this composition, I am obsessed with
the type writer on the background who gave me different and
contrast color with the other objects, but I realized that
this composition was lack of elements (too simple) so I
decided not to go with this one. Mr Martin also told me
that this is a great design and clearly different from the
previous design, he said that I can either go with the first
composition or the second one.

I played around with the tools as instructed from Mr Martin to
develop our design, so I started to try channel mixer to
adjust the colors of my design so that the colors could stand out
a little bit than the original one.

And then I tried to apply and adjust the brightness and contrast, as Mr Martin said, I need to explore the tools and filters that available in adobe photoshop, so I played a little bit the consistency of my brightness and contrast.

Another filter that I applied is color backup, it's a very helpful filter for me because it is automatically transform our object or design with the variety type of camera and filter, it is very convenient and suitable for those who are just started using photoshop.

FEEDBACK
General Feedback :
Mr Martin introduced us to
photoshop and we tried to follow what he does. He told us to
play around with the tools so that we could learn it by
ourselves. He also gave us some tips and tricks that is
undoubtedly valuable for us who just started using
photoshop.
Specific Feedback :
He told me to explore all the
tools so and try to make 3 different compositions and submit it
via classroom.
Week 4 : Final Outcome
General Feedback :
He taught us to keep
exploring and think something out of the box to upgrade
your design and composition, he also gave almost every student
a very quick feedback yet valuable
Specific Feedback :
He told me to don't be
hesitated to explore something new, adding some elements would
impacted your final result in positive way
REFLECTIONS
Throughout this project, we learned to create our own composition as well as our own collage using Adobe Photoshop. We experienced many class using Photoshop and it was a great opportunity for us (students) to learn about photoshop a bit deeper. From this class also, we are able to execute our own design by using many tools that was provided by photoshop to elevate the quality from our design.
