INSTRUCTION
Balace and Emphasis
- Balance :
- Balance refers to the distribution of visual weight in a work of design.
- It is the visual equilibrium of the elements that cause the total image to appear balanced.
- Balance can be symmetrical or asymmetrical
Figure 1.1 Angkor wat (cambodia)
- Symmetrical Balance :
- Has equal “weigth” on equal sides of centrally placed fulcrum
- The equal arrangement of elements on either side of the central axis (horizontal or vertical) resulting in bilateral balance
- Arrangging elements equally around a central point results in raia balance
- Approximate symmetry is when equivalent but not identical form are arranged around the fulcrum line.
Figure 1.2 Batik (31/08/21)
- Asymmetrcal Balance :
- Unequal Weight
- One side maybe more dominant, which could be balanced y a ouple or more lesser focal points
- More synamic and interesing, more visual even if it’s harder to achive.
Figure 1.3 (31/08/21)
- The Golden Ratio :
- Known as phi, is a mathematical concept.
- Comess from the Fibonacci sequense representative of perfect beauty or is uniquely found throughout nature
- Guide to create visual blance
- Can be used to brinng harmony, balance, and structure.
Figure 1.4 Golden Ratio (31/08/21)
- Rule of Thirds :
- Composition guideline to create more dynamism
- Image divided into thirds (horizontally or vertically), the subject placed at the intersection of them.
Figure 1.5 Rule of Thirds (31/08/21)
- Emphasis and Dominance :
- Used to create dominance and focus in a design work
- Various elements can be used to create emphasis (colour, shape, or value)
Figure 1.6 Emphasis and Dominance (31/08/21)
- Repetition and Dominance :
- Make work of design seem active
- Creates rhythm and pattern within the work
- Variety is essential to keep excitng and active (avoind monotony)
- Pattern increases visual excitement
Figure 1.7 Repetition (31/08/21)
- Movement :
- The way a design leads the eye in, around, and through a composition - the path the eye follows.
- Motion or Movement ina visual image occurs when object seem to be moving.
- Movement in a visual image comes from shapes, forms, lines, and curves.
Figure 1.8 Movement (31/08/21)
- Hierarchy :
- Choreography of content in a composition
- Directs viewers to the most important first.
- Alignment :
- Placement of elements that edges line up along common rows or along a common center.
- Creates sense of unity and cohesion - perceive as stable
- Leading a person through a design,

PRACTICAL
Balance : Regarding to MIB, we were assigned to create another types of design
and I chose Balance and Repetitive to represent my art. I started to
find some inspirations from Pinterest and transform it into balance
(symmetrical) form.
Figure 2.1 and 2.2 Example (31/08/21)
I tried to recreate those pictures that I found from Pinterest. In terms
of balance (symmetrical) I chose to draw two swans facing each other to
represent the theme that I pick. To stand out the swan I also drew quite
contrast background with monochrome colors.
Figure 2.3 Symmetrical Balance (31/08/21)
I put the video as well so that the lecturer can also watch the progress
of mine
Video 1.1 Symmetrical Balance
Repetition : For repetition, I took this picture as
my reference from the Pinterest as well
that I found very interesting with those combination colors. I
chose the same object to represent the form of repetition and
dominance and tried to add another colors.
Figure 2.4 Example (31/08/21)
Here is the final result and the video of my progression that I
made, I tried to repeat the same objects to create the form of
repetition but i also changed the colors to reduce and avoid monotonous
from my design.

FEEDBACK
General Feedback :
The overall design are quite good and on the right path. He also
gave us a lot of peer feedback so that every student can figure
out something new or new lessons by themselves.
Specific Feedback : Mr Charles said that the work as well
as the blog are good and on the right path. He also wanted me to
explore myself and think out of the box.
REFLECTION
Experience : The class was great, Mr Charles gave us a very quick
feedback yet undoubtedly valuable for us, I tried to follow his instructions
about my design and he also told me that they are (my designs) on the
right path. We also had a chance to ask and request feedback from Mr
Charles, the lessons that he taught us also very clear and
understandable.
