Personal Development Week : Reflection Report

SUMMARY:

Throughout Taylor's University's 6 hours of Personal Development Week (PDW), I was exposed to an immense amount of knowledge that would help us prepare for our future endeavours or career. Each webinar was incredibly informative, providing a complete comprehension of the material addressed. The webinar itself is really well-prepared, and the host was both attentive and enthusiastic in delivering the addressed topic.

  • First Day Webinars

Starting with "Financial Literacy for Fresh Graduate" from Maybank, I was able to discover and comprehend about an extremely crucial saving technique that I may need to learn more about given my existing saving behaviour. They not only taught us about saving, but also about investing and the distinctions between the two, which opened up a new perspective for me, who is incredibly naive when it comes to investment. They not only explain investment, but also how to start investing and create our own portfolio.

On the same day, we attended another webinar called "keynote: Aspire to Inspire" by POS Malaysia. We mostly received very important tips from here, such as practice makes perfect, how you can outperform your competitor (because when it comes to a job, we compete with so many people to get hired by our dream company/job), and how to find a way for us to stand out/different from our competitors.

  • Second Day Webinars

BDO's "Maximise Your LinkedIn Presence" taught me the value of regularly managing LinkedIn profiles, emphasising how a well-maintained and professional profile increases exposure, credibility, and the likelihood of receiving useful recommendations. It emphasised that LinkedIn should only be used for professional purposes, with a prominent profile header, thorough work experience, and a first-person "About" section to highlight your impact and accomplishments. The seminar also emphasised the need of using LinkedIn to develop meaningful networks, access opportunities, remain up to date on industry trends, and foster partnerships that support professional progress. This prompted me to be more proactive in using LinkedIn as a strategic tool for job growth.

On the same day, I also attended "AI in Digital Media" hosted by the Malaysia Advertisers Association. This webinar taught me the value of advertising with the purpose of providing social impact and how AI is altering marketing. AI's key marketing benefits include greater personalisation, endless content production capability, and automation of repetitive chores like as email marketing and social media posting. AI also allows for faster experimentation and more efficient budget allocation across channels, making marketers more adaptable and effective. The workshop closed by emphasising the increasing need of critical and creative thinking in the changing marketing landscape.

  • Third Day Webinars

The session on digital transformation focused on the transition from old processes to digital solutions in daily life, notably in commercial areas such as e-commerce, digital marketing, and video consultations. Cloud computing for simpler data access, AI for automation and improved user experience, IoT for data collecting and decision-making, and AR/VR technologies are among the most significant trends. The importance of digital transformation stems from its ability to improve workplace efficiency and cost-effectiveness through the use of online tools. The seminar also emphasised the importance of enthusiasm in the workplace, recommending that if you feel compelled to go to work, you should reassess your professional path.

At the final webinar of this Personal Development Week (PDW), "How to Build Your Personal Branding at Work & During Interviews" by Agoda, I learnt about the importance of personal branding, how to introduce yourself in the workplace, and how to leave an impact in the workplace.

Overall, I was able to prepare myself with the knowledge I gained throughout this Personal Development Week (PDW). This not only helps me prepare, but also boosts my confidence.
