PROJECT 2 : INVISIBLE SET EXTENSION

In the application of this project, we will need to synthesise the knowledge acquired in tasks 1 and 2 of this project. We will need to dissect and deconstruct unedited footage in order to improve or create a convincing environment. As a reminder, students are not required to construct or build an entirely new environment, but rather to enhance existing elements by adding and combining raw footage.

  • MOODBOARD
To find inspiration for the story and the background of the matte paintings, I began by compiling a variety of references from a variety of online resources, including Pinterest, Behance, and Pexels. I chose Guardian of the Galaxy as my story's and concept's inspiration (Galaxy Exploration). In addition to selecting desert as my environment or base plate for the project, I added additional elements such as rocks, mountains, and satellites to enhance the sense of a galactic guardian (Galaxy Explorer).

  • SKETCHES
To continue the projects, each student was required to create multiple sketches and consult with Mr. Kannan to determine which of the sketches should be used. I decided to create five various sketches for the concept and chose the first one that I found intriguing and aligned with my concept.

  • PROGRESSION
I began constructing the environment by adding unedited footage from the internet, which I have compiled below. I then began deconstructing all the elements and manipulating the brightness and light sources to create the desired atmosphere. I also decided to construct alternative ambiences in order to determine which one was best for my matte painting.
