INTERCULTURAL DESIGN / PROJECT 1 ( PROPOSAL )
INSTRUCTIONS
PRACTICAL
Week 1 (09/01/2022) :
Today is the first day of the semester, as well as the first day of this Intercultural Design class. We met our lecturer, saw some familiar faces, and learned about design from him (Dr Charles). We were also asked to form a group to assist and support us throughout the semester.
This group will determine whether you pass or fail this semester, so communication skills are essential in this class and subject. We will need to talk about one topic that we will use and how we will present our topic and idea as our final project. And here is the detail of our group for Intercultural Design :
FEEDBACK
General Feedback :
The overall rational is explain quite clearly, There is potential in some ideas that would meet the research objective to educate public about Nyepi
Specific Feedback :
There is potential in some idea about nyepi like the animation or infographic of timeline and short video that would meet the research objective. About presentation, although all members presented, some staples in between sentences. The various celebration of nyepi vaguely presented.
REFLECTION
Experience :
This is my first time collaborating with designers. I'd never created anything with other people before, and to be honest, I was initially repelled by this intercultural design because I despise working with others. But now I realise that we will need to collaborate with others in the future, and that is exactly what I learned from this class, to communicate and research.
Observation :
This project has really opened my eyes to cultural issues in general, as well as design issues in particular. Every culture has a huge potential to be a great and inspirational design if we explore and dig into those cultures rather than just in general. We could use every culture we've never thought of or existed in before because of this class, and that is the power of research. This project also taught me how to communicate with others and work with others to create a new piece of art or design.
Findings :
This project was extremely valuable to me because it put our research and exploration skills to the test, and it allowed me to learn about cultures I had never heard of before. I looked around at my friends and discovered that there are many different cultures that we can use and present through design. This project allowed me to learn more about my own culture, nyepi. This is where the magic happens when you can understand a new culture and collaborate to create a piece of design, which is what we call intercultural design.
